Your Complete Guide to the Town of Laguna
Laguna Vista is a friendly and quiet residential community with an affordable cost-of-living and a wide range of recreational options including golf, bay and deep-sea fishing, birding, windsurfing, and kiteboarding. Laguna Vista is home to the South Padre Island Golf Club, an 1800-acre gated community of homes, townhomes, villas, and casitas, as well as an 18-hole championship golf course.
Bayfront living, gated communities, safe and family-oriented neighborhoods, and a moderate climate with an average year-round temperature of 72 degrees are only a few of the reasons Laguna Vista is the perfect place to visit for a long weekend, a month or two, or even a lifetime.
Mission of Laguna Vista
- Serve the citizens of Laguna Vista by promoting a system of government through which our citizens and businesses prosper.
- Ensure a safe, quality environment for residents and businesses.
- Provide effective, reasonably priced municipal services and administration.
- Establish and enforce reasonable standards pertinent to the city with all due respect for established State and Federal laws.
- Control development to ensure opportunity for growth, retention of property values, and preservation of our rural heritage with an emphasis on city beautification.
- Maintain a vision of the future and plan for services, which support that vision.
- Execute these responsibilities in harmony with our neighbor communities, State and Federal government without discrimination based on race, color, creed, or national origin.
Town of Laguna Vista Vision
Professional citizen-servants leading a growing community by providing responsible public administration and reliable municipal services; enforcing reasonable standards of development and safety which protect property values and ensure a quality community atmosphere; dedicated to fiscal responsibility and stewardship based on honesty, integrity, fairness, and accountability with service above self and excellence in all we do.
Mayor Michael Carter
On behalf of the Town Council, I welcome you to the beautiful Town of Laguna Vista, Texas, a beautiful community to live, work, and play. I am thrilled that you have taken the time to view our official Website.
We have much to offer. We are considered a bedroom community located at the intersection of Highway 100 and FM 510. We're a 20-minute drive to South Padre Island and a 10-minute drive to Port Isabel. We're also a short drive to Brownsville and Harlingen with close proximity to top-notch medical facilities, hospitals, and services for veterans.
Laguna Vista is known for its scenic beauty, picturesque sunsets, and an "easy-paced" lifestyle. We are a quiet and friendly community with an affordable cost-of-living and an array of recreational opportunities that include playing golf, bay and deep-sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and kite-boarding. We are actually located at the center and heart or "Corazon" of the entire Laguna Madre area.
In recent years, the Town has invested heavily in its local parks that are second-to-none and that are envied by many other communities. We have beautiful Roloff Park, Veterans Park, Sports Park, and a beautiful nature trail—all created for the enjoyment of all residents of all ages.
We are also home to the South Padre Island Golf Club, a 1,800 acre gated community of homes, townhomes, villas and casitas and includes an 18-hole championship golf course. The course offers a breathtaking view of the bay and of South Padre Island.
Again, thank you for viewing our Website. We hope that you consider making Laguna Vista your home for a day, a month, or a lifetime.
History of Laguna Vista
Built on a proud history beginning in the 1500s when the Coahilitecan Indians inhabited the land, to the 1800s when Mexican salt traders explored the shores of the Laguna Madre ("Mother Bay") to find calm waters full of fish, to today's thriving coastal community, Laguna Vista is no longer one of South Texas' best-kept secrets.
In 1928, the Point Isabel Land Company purchased much of the area and established local hunting and fishing camps. Laguna Vista was incorporated in 1958, resulting in steady population growth over the past 50 years. Today, the town has over 5000 residents.
